Vernā Myers will be moderating a panel discussion with leaders from leading tech companies: Netflix, LinkedIn, Microsoft, and Quora. In this panel, they will explore the importance of an inclusive product and how they are achieving it by building an inclusive team and leveraging big data, ML, and AI.
Meghana Reddy is a passionate problem solver who has worked in the field of data analytics for 9 years. She is a proud graduate of UCLA, with degrees in Applied Mathematics and Electrical Engineering. Meghana currently leads the Content Analytics & Metrics data team at Netflix Inc. Her team of expert data analysts build Content metrics and support strategic decision-making. They are at the exciting intersection of art and science, providing valuation metrics and analytical insight to support Content creators. To achieve this, the team uses large-scale data and visualization tools to provide a lens into how content is consumed on the service. Prior to Netflix, Meghana was an Analytics Manager at the LA-based startup company ZipRecruiter and a Forensic Technology consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC).
Laura leads the Streaming Data Science & Engineering team at Netflix. Her team is responsible for the data, analytics and science that makes Netflix video work seamlessly whenever you hit play, no matter where you are in the world or what device you're using. She's an East Coast transplant who loves learning new domains how how data can apply to them. She has analyzed human behavior in call centers, the brain waves of babies and her own social graph to design the optimal seating chart for parties.
Kelly Uphoff is the VP of Content and Marketing Data Science & Engineering at Netflix. Based in Los Angeles, she leads a team of analysts, machine learning researchers, and data scientists who support key decision-makers seeking to find and launch the best content. Over eight years ago, Kelly joined Netflix as a statistician working to optimize the service through A/B Testing. The best part of her current role is pioneering new innovation at the intersection of creativity and technology through collaboration with brilliant scientific and creative thinkers. Prior to joining the corporate world, Kelly was in the Peace Corps where she worked to grow women-led small businesses in the former Soviet Union.
Vernā Myers is an inclusion strategist, cultural innovator, thought leader, and social
commentator. A Harvard-trained lawyer and founder of The Vernā Myers Company, Vernā was recently made VP, Inclusion Strategy at Netflix. In this newly created role, she will help devise and implement strategies that integrate cultural diversity, inclusion and equity into all aspects of Netflix’s operations worldwide. Vernā is the author of Moving Diversity Forward: How to Go From Well-Meaning to Well-Doing and What If I Say the Wrong Thing? 25 Habits for Culturally Effective People. Her inspiring TED talk, “How to Overcome Our Biases? Walk Boldly Toward Them,” has been viewed almost 3 million times.
Sonal is Technical Program Manager for Data Lifecycle Management, which is a comprehensive approach for curating and acting upon Netflix's data security, privacy, and efficiency. Prior to joining Netflix, Sonal has worked in various business domains ranging from medical to online stores for companies ranging from Fortune 500 to small startups. In her TPM role she is responsible for establishing good data management practices across Netflix. She has her Computer Science degree from India, Pune.
Jessica has been a member of the Data Platform team at Netflix since 2013. She is currently a full-stack software engineer for the Data Experience team, building tools that allow everyone at Netflix to interact with big data. She has been in the tech industry for 20 years, with experience ranging from start-ups to scientific non-profits. Prior to Netflix, she worked on The Cancer Genome Atlas Project. Jessica holds an MS in Bionformatics from Indiana University and a BS in Biological Sciences from Stanford University.
Wenjing Zhang is Director of Data Science at LinkedIn leading a team with over 70 data scientists distributed across the globe. Her team uses quantitative and qualitative data to help understand the complex ecosystem and guide product and go-to-market strategy, defines metrics to evaluate product performance and performs experiments to optimize member experience with fairness in mind. She is passionate about building a diverse, inclusive and belonging culture. Before LinkedIn, she worked at eBay and JPMorgan Chase with M.S. in Statistics. Besides work, Wenjing loves to try new things such as alternative dietary lifestyle.
Lili is the Head of Data Science at Quora. As a Q&A and insights sharing platform, Quora's mission is to grow and share the world's knowledge. The data science team delivers insights to shape product strategy, inform decisions and size growth opportunities using data analyses, A/B testing and product research. She graduated from Harvard with a degree in Physics. At Harvard, she conducted biophysics research that constructed Markov chain and biased random walk models to understand protein RNA interaction and energy barriers.
Navrina Singh was previously the Principal Product Manager in Microsoft Cloud & AI, where she was focused on building conversational AI and virtual agents for Business Application Group.
Prior to this, Navrina was the Director Business Development for Artificial Intelligence responsible for business development, strategy and partnerships to forge new businesses for Microsoft leveraging Artificial Intelligence technologies. Before joining Microsoft in 2016, Navrina spent 12 years at Qualcomm Incorporated, where she held multiple roles across engineering, product management and strategy. In her last role at Qualcomm, Navrina was the head of Qualcomm Innovation responsible for the vision and execution of the technology incubator (Qualcomm ImpaQt) focused on building
emerging technologies and delivering strategic partnerships in Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things and Mobile. Navrina is a Young Global Leader with World Economic Forum (WEF), for her work in disruptive technologies, catalyzing startup ecosystems and a keen focus on cognitive diversity and Inclusion. Navrina was also a member of the WEF Global Future Council on AI and Robotics, exploring how developments in these fields could impact industry, governments and society in the future. Navrina currently serves on the industry advisory board of the University of Wisconsin-Madison College of Electrical Engineering. Navrina holds a MS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, an MBA from the University of Southern California and a BS in Electronics &Telecommunications from College of Engineering, Pune India.
